Larijani Says Islamic Revolution Awakens Region

Addressing a conference on martyrs of the Islamic world on Saturday, Larijani hinted at the recent revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt and the recent uprisings in the Middle East, saying that such events reflect the “essence of the Islamic Revolution.”. The senior Iranian official referred to martyred Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh as a “great designer” in forcing Israeli troops out of Southern Lebanon. Mughniyeh, who was one of the most prominent Hezbollah figures, was assassinated in a car bomb explosion in the Syrian capital, Beirut, on February 12, 2008. Hezbollah held the Israeli regime responsible for the assassination of Mughniyeh, but Tel Aviv's officials at the time denied having any role in the assassination. "All Western and Israeli intelligence services were after him [Mughniyeh] and I have heard that [US] Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) spent USD 30,000 to martyr him," Larijani said. He also pointed out that the recent events and revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt as well as the uprisings in other countries of the Middle East are “promising and ... auspicious events.” Larijani also expressed hope that people of the region will overcome the global arrogance in the future.
