Iran's New Budget Emphasizes Justice

“One of the main attributes of the budget is its attention and emphasis on justice,” Ahmadinejad said on Sunday. The Iranian chief executive said the budget is designed to reduce economic and social disparity among various social classes. He added that the five-year Economic Development Plan, which was recently handed over to the government, was taken into consideration when drafting the new budget. President Ahmadinejad made the statements at the open session of Parliament (Majlis) on Sunday where he submitted the country's budget bill for the upcoming fiscal year (to start on March 21, 2011). The 1,769-trillion-rial (nearly 180 billion dollars) budget bill will be reviewed by Majlis lawmakers and their respective committees within 10 to 15 days. The approved budget will be then sent to the country's Guardian Council, whose approval is required for the bill to become law. The budget bill for the new Iranian calendar year encompasses measures that give President Ahmadinejad the mandate to promote his major economic plans.
