World Community Urged to Try Regional Dictators for Genocide

In the letter, the committee voiced Iran's strong protest at the massacre of demonstrators in Libya by fighter jets and similar violent acts in Bahrain, Yemen and Egypt. The committee also pointed to different international treaties, conventions, declarations, rules and regulations, and asked the world body to form a committee to probe into the current status of the people in Libya, Egypt, Bahrain, and Yemen, and bring criminals to justice in an international tribunal. Hundreds are reported dead in protests calling for an end to Qaddafi's 41-year dictatorial rule. Qaddafi took power in a 1969 coup. Anti-government protests began Monday for the first time in Libya's capital, Tripoli. Media reported that pro-Qaddafi supporters and security forces were firing into crowds of demonstrators and government buildings were set on fire. Libya was elected to a three-year term on the Human Rights Council in May 2010. It received 155 votes from the 192-member UN General Assembly. Meantime in Manama, more than 100,000 protesters poured into the central Pearl Square in an unbroken stream stretching back for miles along a central highway in the biggest antigovernment demonstration yet in this tiny Persian Gulf kingdom. Also in Yemen, anti-government protests have flared again with thousands of marchers demonstrating across the country. Their target, President Ali Abdullah Saleh, has said he will step down after national elections are held in 2013. But he has rejected protesters' demands that he leave office now.
