Iran, Ecuador Stress Expansion of Parliamentary Ties

During the meeting here in Tehran today, Jafarzadeh underlined the necessity of expanding the bilateral ties, and stated, "The Islamic Consultative Assembly (parliament) supports any move in the political and economic spheres for the expansion and deepening of the bilateral relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Ecuador." "Reciprocal meetings between the two countries' parliaments should increase more than before in line with the two nations' interests," the Iranian lawmaker noted. Cordero, for his part, said that exchange of parliamentary delegations would help the two nations "get more familiar with each other and boost their knowledge and understanding of their common views and stances in different international issues". Iran has in recent years expanded friendly ties with Latin America, specially in economic, trade and industrial fields. Since taking office in 2005, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has expanded Iran's cooperation with many Latin American states, including Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba and Brazil. Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa visited Tehran in 2009, where he signed contracts 120-million-dollars in worth.
