Senior Legislator: Developments in Region Indicate Demise of US Power

TEHRAN, Feb 24 (ICANA) – A prominent Iranian lawmaker in a meeting with a top Ecuadorian legislative official here on Wednesday said that the recent events in the region signify the demise of the US power and will change the world equations in the near future.

Chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi in a meeting with the visiting President of the National Assembly of Ecuador, Fernando Cordero, here in Tehran today called the recent events in the region as "profound and strategic", and underlined that "these developments signify the demise of the US power in the region and the world in the interest of the regional nations". Elsewhere, Boroujerdi laid emphasis on the importance of the expansion and deepening of parliamentary relations between Tehran and Quito, and said, "Parliamentary visits and exchanges can lead to new steps in the development and expansion of the two countries' friendly cooperation in all the various fields." He further noted Iran's progress in different technological and scientific grounds, and mentioned Iran has made giant progress in various areas, including indigenous development of hi-tech, satellite launch, civilian nuclear technology and production of military tools and equipment, despite all the pressures and sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic by the US and its European allies in the last three decades. "The Islamic Republic of Iran's progress in modern technologies and basic sciences provides a strong backup for the promotion of the two countries' relations in economic, industrial and pharmaceutical fields," the MP continued. "The Islamic Consultative Assembly supports joint steps to promote the level of the friendly cooperation between the two countries in all fields," the Iranian lawmaker concluded.
