MP: US, Israel Stunned by Regional Uprisings

Speaking to FNA, Mohammad Reza Bahonar said the domino revolutions and developments in the region are highly important, given their global impacts and aftermaths. "These developments have been interpreted in different ways. Some are pessimistic and imply that an American-type of democracy is happening, but this is a very simplistic view since the US and the Zionist regime are fully clearly stunned by these events," he said. Bahonar underlined that the uprisings in the regional nations "have been inspired by Iran's Islamic Revolution, yet it would be wrong if anyone claims that these revolutions are dependent on Iran's Islamic Revolution". He also stressed that affiliating these revolutions to one single faction or religious sect would be totally wrong, and warned that "those opposing these revolutions have hatched a plot to raise the Shiite-Sunni issues in connection with these revolutions". "As the Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) has stated, people of these countries have been humiliated by the arrogant dictatorship of their state officials and are seeking to restore their rights," he reiterated. In his recent remarks, the Supreme Leader urged Muslim scholars and elites not to let arrogant powers "hijack" popular movements in Islamic countries. "The elite's guidance is needed to assist the people of nations to prevent the arrogant apparatus from hijacking the glorious popular movements (of the Muslim world) and steal their uprising. In that case the future of the Islamic Ummah and the region would be bright," the Leader said in a meeting with ambassadors and representatives of Islamic countries in Tehran on Monday. He also said that the recent revolutions in Muslim countries are resulted from a prolonged humiliation caused by arrogant powers. "The responsibility of political, scientific and academic elites and religious scholars in face of the recent developments is very heavy," he stated. Criticizing the US propaganda and efforts in the region to acquit itself of its role in supporting the regions dictators, the Leader said, "The recent popular movements are primarily against the dominance of the arrogant powers."
