MP: Hague Must Condemn Libya Massacre

“No government has yet committed such crimes against their own nation and used weapons of war to massacre people from the land and the air,” Seyyed Mostafa Tabataba'inejad said Thursday. The parliamentarian described the brutal crackdown on Libyan pro-democracy protests as “the most violent in centuries' time.” Tabataba'inejad deplored the lukewarm reaction by the international community, the UN Security Council and world powers, in particular. “Unfortunately, international organizations react to slightest popular movements but have been silent regarding this great crime and the violent killings,” he added. Reports from Libya indicate that some 1,000 people have been killed in airstrikes and the shelling of demonstrators that demand an end to the four-decade-long rule of Muammar Gaddafi, who has vowed not to ease its grip on power. “The massacre of innocent people revealed the real face of Gaddafi to the world and the Muslim nations,” the Iranian lawmaker said, expressing hope that Gaddafi's ouster will be achieved through patience, resistance and strong faith.
