The resolution demands the immediate release of imprisoned political dissidents in Belarus and urges a halt to their persecution. The Sejm also appealed to all European countries to take firm steps to permanently support civil society in Belarus.

The Belarusian House of Representatives condemned the resolution before it was even passed.

"In our opinion the resolution represents interference in internal affairs of a sovereign state," the lower house of Belarusian Parliament stated, according to Rzeczpospolita.
