Bakhit Wins Vote of Confidence as New Jordanian PM

In the 120-seat parliament, Bakhit's government won 63 votes of confidence on Thursday, while 47 lawmakers voted against, 7 abstained and 2 were absent.

Following the vote, Bakhit told lawmakers that genuine political reforms will be the priority for his government, Xinhua reported.

He also pledged to respect freedom of expression and embark on a comprehensive national dialogue.

Bakhit also announced the government's commitment to implementing economic plans aimed at tackling the country's existing problems.

The vote of confidence came as Jordan's Islamic Action Front and the Popular Unity Party have planned to hold a rally in the capital Amman on Friday to pressure the government to push ahead with reform plans in the country.

In early February, after weeks of anti-government protests across Jordan, King Abdullah II bin al-Hussein sacked former Prime Minister Samir Rifai over the slow pace of reforms and appointed Bakhit as Jordan's new premier.

However, the opposition in Jordan says Bakhit is not a reformist.
