Lawmaker Hails Shamgen Visa Idea

Iran, Turkey, Syria and Iraq have agreed on issuing joint visa, said Iranian deputy Vice President Ali Aghamohammadi.

"As offered by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, tourists can visit the four countries with the joint visa," Aghamohammadi said this week. The measure seeks to lessen tourists' expenses and facilitate tourism in the four countries.

Seyed Emad Hosseini Sadr, referring to the advantages of the shaping of Shamgen visa said that realization of the idea, with regard to proximity, amity and religious-ethnic commonalities among these countries is highly important.

He added that the four countries have the potential to be turned into a strategic tetragon in the Middle East and through further coordination while influencing political, cultural, social and economic equations in the region could give orientation to those affairs.

The name "Shamgen" has been proposed by Erdogan. Shamgen is named after "Sham" which is the classical Arabic name of Syria, he added.

Initial steps for realization of the idea between Iran and Syria are in their final stages and the two countries have offered their final acts to be approved in their parliaments.

Iran has taken actions towards Turkey and Iraq as well.
