Sanctions Make Iran Self-Sufficient: Pakistani Legislator

Senator of Pakistan Muslim League-Q and former Information minister, Muhammad Ali Durrani, endorsed the statement of Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who had said that sanctions imposed on Iran have only expedited the nation's development and progress and strengthened national solidarity.

“It is a very positive statementو” Muhammad Ali Durrani told IRNA.

The politician maintained the sanctions imposed on Iran over its peaceful nuclear program have failed to impede the nation's progress.

The Pakistani senator was of the view that a country can progress only if it is not dependent upon the resources of other countries. “And this is actually what Iran is doing”, said the politician.

The political leader said that self sufficiency is a blessing of Almighty Allah. Senator believed that sanctions have made Iran stronger. “Sanctions have served as an effective incentive in achieving self-sufficiency”, said Muhammad Ali Durrani.

The United States and its allies accuse Iran of following a military nuclear program, but Tehran has repeatedly refuted the charges.

Under Western pressure, the UN Security Council imposed a fourth round of sanctions against Iran's financial and military sectors in June.

Tehran argues that as a member of the IAEA and a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the country has the right to use peaceful nuclear energy.

Muhammad Ali Durrani expressing his views said that the Western powers are exploiting the Muslims States. He accused the West of double standards against the Muslim countries saying “discrimination always creates resentment and this is what the West has to understand”.

“They have no right to intervene in the affairs of other countries”, he pointed out.

The Pakistani law maker added that Iran is a responsible country and has always tried to maintain friendly relations with all countries.

Muhammad Ali Durrani hailed the statement of President Ahmadinejad who had stated that Islamic Republic of Iran has cordial and brotherly relations with most governments across the world and has always insisted on promotion of ties based on justice, mutual respect, friendship and brotherhood.

'Unfortunately, certain European countries are influenced by some international bullies which are led by the Zionists who won't let fair and friendly relations get established,' Ahmadinejad noted.

“Yes I agree with the Iranian President”, said the Pakistani Senator.
