Thai Parliament to Be Dissolved by Early May

The prime minister made the announcement after spending one and a half hour meeting with the four members of Election Commission ( EC) on Friday noon discussing the electoral regulations and timing.

"I understand the draft to amend the organic laws for elections will be submitted to House next week," he said, according to Xinhua.

The House dissolution in May will pave the way for the general election which could be organized by late June or early July, or 45 to 60 days after declaration of the parliament dissolution is made in the royal decree according to the Constitution.

Following the discussion with the premier, Apichart Sukhagganond, chairman of the EC, told reporters that EC was ready to arrange the election whenever the government disbanded the parliament.

"Election Commission has been fully prepared. Even if the parliament is dissolved today, we can arrange election within 45- 60 days. Our staffs are ready but some regulations must be amended to comply with the amended Constitution,"Apichart said.

The EC chairman said the commissioners, in Friday's meeting, proposed three options to PM Abhisit for consideration.
