MP Slams West's Silence on Killing of People in Arab States

In a letter to Chairman of the German Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Ruprecht Polenz, Boroujerdi said that today the world is witnessing blatant violation of human rights and brutal massacre of innocent and defenseless people in Bahrain, Yemen and Libya.

However, the United States and Western countries, as the so-called upholders of the human rights, are only observing brutal killing of people in these countries indifferently and even explicitly or implicitly approve of the criminal actions perpetrated by the cruel and autocratic rulers, said Boroujerdi, who is the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee chairman.

The European parliaments which sometimes issue statements against the execution of a murderer are also silent about these crimes, he stated.

He went on to say that the UN Security Council which holds a session for an assassination and orders the establishment of a tribunal has not taken any serious action over the past month to restore security in the crisis-hit countries and defend the innocent citizens.

The European parliaments’ inaction and the UN Security Council’s failure to fulfill their obligations have paved the way for continuation of violent suppression of protesters, he said.

He added Saudi Arabia sends troops and heavy weapons to Bahrain to put down the unrest and the United States as the biggest self-proclaimed upholder of human rights in the West backs this action which is clearly in violation of the international law and goes against moral principles, he added.

Boroujerdi also asked, “Doesn’t the great Iranian nation have the right not to trust the West’s claims about the human rights? And isn’t the Islamic Republic of Iran right to believe that the U.S. and Europe only care about their interests and are ready to sacrifice all humanity to achieve their goals.”

In conclusion, the lawmaker said that the West’s policies and actions have undermined the international peace and security and created tension in the region and called on the Western countries to seriously revise their policies.

Foreign military presence in Bahrain, most criminal U.S.-Saudi plan

Rapporteur of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has also commented on the ongoing developments in Bahrain, condemning the U.S.-backed dispatch of Saudi and UAE troops to Bahrain.

“Presence of Saudi and UAE military forces in Bahrain and the U.S. support for this action is the most criminal Saudi-U.S. plan,” MP Kazem Jalali told the Mehr News Agency on Wednesday.

“U.S. Defense Secretary (Robert Gates) has recently visited Bahrain and all plans to deal with Bahraini people were drawn up during this trip,” he said.

“The treachery of Bahraini rulers will go down in the annals of history,” he added.
