General Reports on ISAF Developments

But, despite widespread anti-war sentiments and criticism over the failure of these tactics in Germany, outgoing ISAF RC-North commander is upbeat;

Though the US and its allies invaded the country in 2001 with the aim of toppling the Taliban-run government, efforts are now underway to negotiate peace and reconciliation with the militants.

According to American news outlets, US officials have already begun their first direct talks with the militants in a bid to what they call, finding a political settlement to the war.

German army Maj. Gen. Hans-Werner Fritz, who led the Regional Command North, has returned to Germany after serving nine months as the ISAF regional commander in Afghanistan. He headed a large alliance of over 10 thousand soldiers from 16 different nations. Germany has more than 4,850 service personnel deployed in Afghanistan. Fritz faced many questions by the German Press as they follow the developments in Afghanistan very closely. And, as indicated by various polls, a majority of Germans want an immediate withdrawal of all troops.
