Scots Urge Support for Education

The demonstrators asked the candidates to rule out tuition fee and urged them to provide more financial support for students.

Students rally was held on the final day of business at Holyrood before May elections.

Liam Burns, president of National Union of Students (NUS) Scotland, said that education must be considered as a major issue of every parliamentary candidate's campaign.

Speaking ahead of the march, Burns said hundreds of students, parents and lecturers have marched in Edinburgh to show the parliamentary candidates that education must be regarded as front and centre of their campaigns.

"In the rest of the UK, students were betrayed with huge cuts to colleges and universities and the trebling of tuition fees. We must come together with one voice to make sure that this never happens here in Scotland,” he said.

"We are already making huge progress with almost all of the parties ruling out fees, but we need just as strong commitments to improve the financial support available to the poorest students," Burns added.
