MP Slams Obama's 'Assertive' Posture

“The Nowruz message by the US president was a passive reaction to Iran's principled and rational stance in the international system,” a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis), Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, said on Wednesday.

He added that instead of expressing congratulations on the occasion of the new Iranian calendar year and the first day of spring, the US statesmen use the Nowruz message as a pretext to meddle in Iran's internal affairs, Majlis news agency (ICANA) reported.

Hosseini described as “unacceptable” the US interference in domestic affairs of countries and emphasized that the Iranian nation pays no heed to such a “nasty habit.”

The Iranian lawmaker noted that the US lacks capability to use military force against Iran and has suffered a heavy defeat from the Iranian nation.

He reiterated that Washington resorts to new approaches, including Nowruz message, to meddle in Iran's internal affairs.

In his message to the Iranian nation on the occasion of Nowruz, the Persian New Year, Obama criticized the Iranian government for what he called “a campaign of intimidation and abuse” following the June 2009 presidential election.

He claimed that the Iranian government has demonstrated that it cares far more about preserving its own power than respecting the rights of the Iranian people.

The US chief executive also said that “the future of Iran belongs to the young” and reiterated that he would stand by the Iranian youth in determining their future.

Hosseini said the United States also interferes in the affairs of different countries in the Middle East.

“The US seeks to derail popular uprisings in Arab countries. It uses military force to kill and suppress nations and disregards national sovereignty,” he concluded.
