Larijani: Regional Developments Serve Nations' Interests

Lartijani made the remarks in a Monday meeting with the Lebanese Foreign Minister Ali Shami, who is in Tehran as the special envoy of the Lebanese president to attend the international Nowruz (New Year) celebrations.

Conveying the warm greetings of Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to his Iranian counterpart, the Lebanese foreign minister briefed Larijani on the latest developments in his country and the region.

Stressing that parliamentary diplomacy reflected the events and wishes of the nations, the Lebanese minister voiced his country's interest in using this type of diplomacy particularly in cooperation with the Iranian Majlis with regards to the developments in the Arab world.

Shami stated that his country supported the nations who were fought for freedom and wanted to decide their own fate through democratic elections.

He also condemned the interventions and plots of the West, particularly the US in Lebanon and the region and deplored certain parties, groups and governments in this respect.

The Lebanese minister also hailed the role played by Syria in support of the resistance movement in the region and Lebanon against the Zionists and described the current unrest in Syria a US-Western conspiracy against Damascus.

For his part, Larijani stressed the need for sustained security and stability in Lebanon and said the current developments in the region would serve the interests of the nations. He said US attempts to "hijack these revolutions" are doomed and the future of the region would serve the interests of the resistance forces and be against the Zionist regime.

The second International Nowruz Celebrations kicked off in the Iranian capital, Tehran Sunday, in the presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Iran first organized the International Nowrouz Celebrations after the International Day of Nowrouz was registered on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on February 23, 2010.

Nowrouz, which coincides with the first day of spring on the solar calendar, is mostly celebrated in Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.
