SL: Iran Resistance Angers Global Powers

“[Iran's enemies] have been trying to show their anger for 30 years but they have failed because of the Iranian nation's resolve,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in the southern city of Asalouyeh on Monday.

The Leader visited the oil, gas and petrochemical production and development projects in the South Pars gas field.

Ayatollah Khamenei described Asalouyeh as an economic zone which relies on production and said, "for a country, the most important thing which can be a major flourishing and progress is production.”

“Especially the productive economy, which relies on knowledge and science,” the Leader added.

The South Pars gas field is located in the Persian Gulf in the border zone between Iran and Qatar. The field's reserves are estimated at 14 trillion cubic meters of natural gas -- about eight percent of the world's reserves -- and more than 18 billion barrels of liquefied natural gas resources.

Iran discovered 13 new oil and gas fields with in-place reserves of 14 billion barrels of oil and 45 trillion cubic feet of natural gas between August 2009 and August 2010, according to the Iranian Oil Ministry.

The South Pars field covers an area of 3,700 square kilometers. The process of developing gas production projects in the South Pars Special Economic Energy Zone is divided into 29 phases.

So far, 10 phases have been complete and 19 other phases are being designed or are being developed.
