TEHRAN, March 31 (ICANA) – The Congress for Progressive Change CPC, one of Nigeria's opposition political parties, has expressed hope for victory at the forthcoming general elections.

Nigeria Opposition Hopeful about General Election

The campaign team has moved round the various regions of Nigeria to explain the manifesto of the party to the various electorates. The public meetings have been characterized by massive turn out of supporters.

The presidential candidate General Muhammadu Buhari had run for presidency in 2003 and 2007. This is his third time and experts say there will be a Buhari phenomenon in the forthcoming elections.

Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and Nuhu Ribadu are other opposition candidates competing for the office of the President of Nigeria.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP has continued to work to counter the challenge of the opposition.

Nigerian youths under the banner of the Nigerian Association of Nigerian students NANS came together to express support for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP.

Meanwhile, one of Nigeria's highest advisory bodies, The National Council of States comprising of Nigeria's former leaders has approved the deployment of troops to avoid violence during the forthcoming general elections.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held on Saturday 2nd of April.

The Presidential and Governorship elections are expected to be held on the 9th and 16th of April respectively.

According to experts, many Nigerians are regarding this transition with high expectations.
