Iran Urges EU to Adopt Clear Stance

In a phone conversation with European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton on Wednesday, Salehi urged the union to adopt a clear stance towards regional events that lacks discrimination.

The Iranian foreign minister has also forwarded a letter to Ashton's office.

Commenting on relations between Iran and the European Union, Ashton also emphasized on the need for removal of obstacles in the way of expanding bilateral ties.

Anti-government protests against the rule of the Al Khalifa dynasty began in Bahrain in mid-February.

On March 13, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates dispatched armed forces to the country to intensify the crackdown on anti-government protesters.

At least 24 people have been killed and over 1,000 others injured since riot police and troops initiated a second round of offensives against the protesters.

More than 82 Yemenis have been killed and hundreds more left injured in a brutal crackdown by state security forces. The anti-government protests began to sweep Yemen in January.
