Iraq Govt. Is Showing Signs of Reform

“Some ministers are now starting to show clear signs of success," Nouri al-Maliki told AP on Saturday.

The coalitions headed by rival Iyad Allawi and Maliki came first and second in Iraq's parliamentary elections last March. The country was thrown into political turmoil for a period of time as neither side succeeded in securing the absolute majority required form a government.

Unity government talks, however, came to a conclusion late last year, resulting in the reinstatement of the premier and President Jalal al-Talabani.

"If the government was a failure -- and this is not the case -- and supposing that all government ministers proved to be failures, definitely the government would fall," Maliki added.

The Iraqi official has given his cabinet until June 7 to fully implement the expected reforms.
