US Opposed to Close Ties among Islamic States

“The US, Israel, and those who support their goals never favor close ties between Islamic countries, and try to sow discord among them, and to pursue their own interests by jeopardizing the interests of the world of Islam,” Mehmanparast said ISNA on Sunday, Press TV reported.

Referring to the recent violent crackdowns on anti-government protesters in several countries in the Middle East and North Africa, the Iranian official said “Such a condition cannot be suitable whether for those countries or for the region,” especially since the situation has turned violent.

Mehmanparast also criticized the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) regarding its stance over the recent uprisings and revolutions in Arab states and the violence with which the governments have tried to quell the protests.

“All countries and international and regional organizations, especially the OIC … can play a more serious role in this regard,” he said.

There should be peaceful means to listen to what the people have to say and to realize their aspirations, he pointed out.

The Iranian official concluded by warning Islamic countries to stay alert so that “Security and stability is established in the region through proper means.”
