NSFPC Will Discuss Marivan Terrorist Attack Monday

On Friday, a group of armed militants reportedly opened fire on a border police station in a village near the city of Marivan, in the western province of Kurdistan. At least four border guards were killed in the attack and three others were wounded.

Ebrahimi told ICANA that NSFPC will review the incident in its first session in the New Year on Monday. He said officials from the ministries of the interior and intelligence will be present at the meeting.

Iranian Deputy Interior Minister Ali Abdollahi says all evidence points to the involvement of PJAK terrorists in the attack.

“The operation style and evidence show that PJAK (the Party for Free Life in Kurdistan) was involved in the terrorist attack,” Abdollahi told IRNA on Sunday.

Abdollahi added that the security and police forces of the province launched an in-depth investigation to arrest the perpetrators of the attack.

PJAK is an offshoot of the internationally-recognized terrorist group, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which conducts deadly operations in western Iran, northern Iraq and southern Turkey.

PKK launches attacks against Turkish government forces from Iraq's Qandil Mountains in areas under the control of Kurdistan Regional Government President Massoud Barzani, while PJAK militants mainly engage in armed attacks with Iranian security forces along the country's border with neighboring Iraq.

Israel and Israeli firms also operate in the northern Iraqi mountain range and are believed to have close links to the terrorists.
