Tehran, Cairo Take Steps to Resume Full Diplomatic Ties: Report

According to Al-Ahram newspaper, Mojtaba Amani said the two countries are currently taking some steps to accelerate the process of establishing diplomatic ties.

Amani also said Iranian officials have welcomed the remarks by Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Al Arabi for opening a new chapter in relations between the two countries.

The move to mend ties between Tehran and Cairo after more than 30 years of frosty relationship comes after the toppling of the Mubarak regime in February.

Amani went on to say that the trade value between the two states is not upper than $100 million and that Tehran and Cairo want this amount to be increased in the near future.

The frozen relations between Iran and Egypt over the past 30 years have negatively affected their trade relations, he added.
