MP Warns of Iran's Tough Reaction to UAE

"The thoughtless remarks of the UAE foreign minister lacked the minimum required diplomatic principles and in case such statements are repeated, we will impose economic sanctions against the UAE," member of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Zohreh Elahian warned on Monday.

Her remarks came after UAE Foreign Minister Abdallah bin Zayid Al Nuhayyan, whose country has deployed troops in Bahrain to help the Al-Khalifa dynasty crackdown on peaceful protests, claimed that Iran is meddling with Bahrain's internal affairs.

The military troops of the UAE and Saudi Arabia have killed and injured hundreds of peaceful protestors in Bahrain since their deployment in the country a few weeks ago.

Elahian said the UAE minister has on several occasions embarked on uttering thoughtless statements which lacked even the minimum criteria and norms of tact and diplomacy.

"The accusations about Iran's interference in Bahrain's domestic affairs is a US-devised scenario to derail the public opinion from the deployment of the Saudi military forces in Bahrain," she said.

"The UAE foreign minister should explain how come our condemnation of the massacre of the Bahraini people is viewed as interference in that country's internal affairs while another country's invasion of Bahrain and deployment of its troops for the suppression of the Bahrainis is not called interference," the Iranian lawmaker questioned.

"He should explain why the expression of our views is considered as meddling, but another country's invasion of Bahrain does not mean so," she continued.

"We cannot remain silent when our Shiite and Sunni brothers in the region are killed."

"The Emiratis should learn diplomatic norms and criteria and others should brief him (Al Nuhayyan) about the Islamic Republic of Iran's role in international developments," she went on saying.

The legislator also warned the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) to watch its attitude and actions and avoid playing into the hands of the US and the Zionist regime of Israel.
