MPs Reject Meddling Accusations

Member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh told Press TV on Tuesday that such statements are politically motivated and false.

“It is unacceptable to link the uprisings in regional countries to Iran. This is ignoring the realities in these countries. The Islamic Republic of Iran respects any revolutionary reforms in Islamic and Arab countries, but does not interfere in such issues,” said the lawmaker.

Falahatpisheh also noted that Saudi Arabia has deployed forces to Bahrain to help Manama crush the anti-government protests, stating that “these Arab countries would better condemn themselves rather than the Islamic Republic.”

Moreover, the rapporteur of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis, Kazem Jalali, denounced some Persian Gulf littoral states for accusing Tehran of “interfering” in Bahrain affairs.

“The best measure those governments who face the uprisings can take is to hear their people's voices and to meet their demands,” Jalali told Press TV.

“They don't view the presence of foreign armies in Bahrain's streets as interference, but when some Iranian officials express their opinions on the matter, they consider it as meddling,” he added.

Saudi Arabia has deployed more than 1,000 troops to the country at the request of Manama. In a similar move, the UAE has dispatched around 500 police forces to the oil-rich Persian Gulf monarchy.

Bahrain's government has continued its military crackdown on anti-government protesters who demand the overthrow of the Al Khalifa dynasty on top of constitutional reforms.

Several Bahrainis have lost their lives so far and hundreds of others have sustained injuries following the violent crackdown on the protesters.

Bahrain and Saudi Arabia are both US allies in the Persian Gulf region and the Middle East. Bahrain is also home to the US Navy's Fifth Fleet.
