Larijani Slams Jordan's Anti-Iran Claim

"The current situation in the region is not for psychological projection," Larijani said, adding that it is about "people's demands for their basic rights regarding democracy and the right to determine their own destiny."

"Officials who make anti-Iran remarks...should see whether what they say" is based on the reality or not, Larijani went on to say.

His comments come on the heels of recent anti-Iran claims by some Arab officials that accused Tehran of 'meddling' in Bahraini affairs. The Iranian Majlis speaker also criticized Western media outlets for alleging that Tehran backs the uprising in Bahrain over a religious affinity.

Larijani, however, argued that Iran has also backed revolutions and uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia, and Yemen, noting that the Islamic Republic maintains a humanitarian perspective on such matters.

Larijani said that some officials in Arab countries seek to sow discord in the region, manipulating the ongoing uprisings.

On Thursday, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also warned against efforts by the US and its Western allies to incite an Iran-Arab conflict and to wage a Shia-Sunni war.

Several Arab countries in the Middle East and North Africa, including Bahrain, are experiencing popular revolutions and uprisings.

Bahrain's government carries out a military crackdown on anti-government protesters that demand the overthrow of the al-Khalifa dynasty on top of constitutional reforms.

Several Bahrainis have lost their lives so far and hundreds of others have sustained injuries following the violent crackdown on the anti-government protesters.

Bahrain and Saudi Arabia are both strong US allies in the Persian Gulf region and the Middle East.

Bahrain is also home to the US Navy's Fifth Fleet huge military base.
