Ahmadinejad Assigns New Chief of Staff

In separate decrees on Saturday, Ahmadinejad appointed Baqaei to the two key administrative posts.

Baqaei is replacing Esfandiyar Rahim-Mashaei who has been serving as the Iranian president's chief of staff for almost two years.

According to the presidential decree, Baqaei was appointed as vice president for executive affairs “to have a close cooperation with the first vice president and ministers to facilitate the decision-making processes.”

Baqaei will retain his post as the Head of Iran's Cultural heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO).

Baqaei is close to Rahim-Mashaei who has been criticized by many Principalists for his beliefs and controversial remarks.
