UK Ex-Minister Pleads Guilty to Fraud

Morley on Thursday pleaded guilty to claiming more than £30,000 in parliamentary expenses.

He was accused of making false documents over mortgage costs between 2004 and 2007 and also false claims after paying off the loan on his property.

The former minister resigned as an MP in the last election. He presented Scunthorpe since 1987.

Morley is the fourth British lawmaker facing a scandal over expenses claims. However, among all others, he has claimed the most.

Former British Labor MP Jim Devine was also convicted of fixing his parliamentary expenses and sentenced to spend 16 months in prison.

Devine was guilty of two counts of fixing accounts worth £8,385 in February. He was the third MP who had been sentenced because of the expenses scandal, after 1.5 year imprisonment.

"These offences constituted a gross breach of trust which, along with others, has had the effect of causing serious damage to the reputation of parliament,” Justice Saunders said.
