Iran Army to Undergo Major Reforms

Earlier in March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei approved reforms in the structure, composition and organization of the Ground Forces.

Brigadier-General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan said that aside from routine missions, the Ground Forces had carried out two other missions in the new Iranian year.

Last August, the commander-in-chief of the Iranian armed forces approved making the implementation of the plan to restructure the Ground Forces a mission for the army, ISNA quoted Pourdastan as saying in Isfahan on Saturday.

“The implementation of this plan will [increase] the flexibility and the operational power of the Ground Forces, preparing them for future battles.”

The official said the reforms would bring extensive changes to the military bases belonging to the Ground Forces.

“The majority of these changes will take place in bases [located] in border areas and in designated routes,” he added.

Pourdastan had said in March that the plan envisioned establishing new military bases in eastern, southeastern and southern parts of the country and hoped to “complete this project within a five-year program.”
