MP: Iran Tops US in Nuclear Field

“Iran was the winner in the battle with major world powers that attempted to violate the Islamic Republic's nuclear rights,” said Chairman of Iran's Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi on Saturday.

“Iran is making efforts to assert its right to nuclear technology,” he told ICANA, adding that the country has succeeded in turning threats into opportunities.

He noted that sanctions imposed on Iran caused far greater losses for Western countries rather than for Tehran.

Meanwhile, spokesman for the Majlis committee Kazem Jalali said Iran played an “undeniable” role in exposing the West's “discriminatory and unjust” attitude towards the nuclear energy issue.

“Iran succeeded in breaking an international monopoly on strategic issues, including the nuclear energy. The country prepared the ground for the right to access nuclear energy as a public demand,” the Iranian lawmaker added.

He censured dual policies of the US and its allies on nuclear technology, saying, “Certain countries were deprived of their nuclear rights due to Western powers' discriminatory approach while they are keeping silence on Israel's atomic bombs.”

Another prominent member of Majlis Hossein Naqavi Hosseini also said that Iran will provide countries in the Middle East and the Muslim world with all the necessary nuclear energy know-how.

“Despite pressure led by the US and Zionist regime (Israel) to place obstacles in the way of Iran's access to nuclear technology, the Iranian nation achieved its nuclear objectives,” the lawmaker added.

He pointed to efforts by the US and Israel to push for an Iranophobia campaign in the region to portray the Islamic Republic as a “great danger” and noted that Tehran has assured regional states that its nuclear technology would facilitate an opporunity for them.

“Iran is ready to provide other countries with nuclear energy know-how,” Hosseini reiterated.

On Saturday, Iran marked the National Nuclear Technology Day with an official ceremony during which some of the country's latest nuclear achievements were unveiled in the presence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
