MP Warns Riyadh of Dire Consequences of Bahrain Invasion

"Those who interfered in the internal affairs of Bahrain should know that their mistake cannot be retrieved and they will face serious challenges," Rapporteur of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem Jalali told reporters on Sunday.

Jalali also reiterated that Saudis' military intervention in Bahrain has created a wide gap between the Bahraini people and their government, and said the Bahraini regime's justification for the deployment of Island Shield Forces (a treaty signed among the six Persian Gulf Cooperation Council member states to defend the members against foreign threats) in Bahrain pertains to those situations when a member state comes under foreign invasion and not when that state is experiencing a peaceful uprising of its own people.

He also warned Bahraini opposition members are experiencing threatening conditions as unofficial reports have alarmed that Bahraini forces are carrying out house by house search and kidnap protestors to torture them.

Demonstrators in Bahrain have been demanding constitutional reforms as well as an end to the 230-year-old monarchy, with hundreds camping out peacefully in the capital's Pearl Square since February 14.

Bahraini security forces have been brutally suppressing anti-government protesters. So far, at least 24 people have been killed, almost 100 have gone missing and about 1,000 others have been injured.

The violence against protesters escalated when Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar dispatched their armed forces to the country to help Manama crack down on peaceful protesters.
