MPs Debate Recent Developments in Region

Following the session, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani stated that head of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi presented a relevant report to the parliamentarians during the closed session.

Larijani added that lawmakers also raised their arguments and views about the regional developments.

He also described the popular uprisings in the region as "revolutions", and added, "Major revolutions are underway in the region."

Since early 2011, people in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Morocco have been staging massive street protests to press the dictatorial regimes in their countries to step down.

Political analysts believe that the Middle-East and North of Africa should still wait for more uprisings and revolutions to happen.

Earlier this month, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said the current uprisings in several Muslim countries herald bigger changes and developments in the region.

"The graced movement which has started in the region today is part of the fruits of the Iranian nation's resistance and more developments will happen in future," the Supreme Leader told a group of senior military commanders here in Tehran.

Ayatollah Khamenei noted the popular movements and revolutions against the West-backed dictators in the region, and said the region will certainly undergo more changes in future.
