Uruguay Keen on Deepening Ties with Iran

In a meeting with Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi, he added that Uruguay thinks of bolstering relations with Iran as a main Islamic country in the Middle East.

“Changes in governments will never change the country’s strategy of developing ties with independent countries,” he said.

He also noted that the increase in diplomatic shuttles between the two countries is a sign of their political willingness to promote ties in different fields.

“Iran is a main and powerful country in the Middle East which has made remarkable progress after the victory of the Islamic Revolution,” he said.

Turning to the developments unfolding in the Middle East and North Africa, he condemned the West’s double-standard policy vis-à-vis independent countries and said that respecting human rights, supporting democracy and non-interference in other countries’ affairs are among the main principles of Uruguay.

Boroujerdi, for his part, said that conditions are prepared for taking long strides in developing bilateral ties in all fields.

“Majlis supports promoting ties with Uruguay in all fields,” he said.

Referring to Iran’s scientific achievements in different sectors, he also said that the achievements were made thanks to the sincere efforts of the children of Iran.

The US and West wanted to extend monopoly over special sectors such as nuclear technology but Iran broke the monopoly and gained access to peaceful nuclear technology, he said.

Uruguay is located in the south eastern part of South America. Montevideo is its capital.
