MP: Iran Sanctions Ineffective

TEHRAN, April 10 (ICANA) – A parliamentarian said here on Sunday that the increase in the number of foreign companies attending Iran's 16th International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition proves that sanctions are ineffective.

Hossein Nejabat, a member of the Majlis Energy Commission told IRNA that although imposition of sanctions on the country has complicated some issues, the western officials, themselves, believe that the economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic had had no impacts on the ongoing programs in the country.

Although the country has been facing several economic restrictions in the past several years, the investment has been enjoying an increasing trend in the period, the MP added.

Iran's 16th International Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemical Exhibition will be held in Tehran on April 15-19.

Some 927 Iranian and 460 foreign companies are taking part in the event.

The number of participating countries and foreign companies has increased by 20 and 22 percent respectively, as compared to the previous year.

The countries taking part in the exhibition are Austria, Spain, Australia, Britain, Italy, Germany, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Russia, France, the Netherlands, Norway, India, Singapore, Japan, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Brazil.
