MP Urges West to Make Further Confidence-Building Moves

Speaking to IRNA on the sidelines of the Majlis open session today, Rapporteur of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem Jalali said holding negotiations was the only proper way for the West to settle Iran’s nuclear problem.

“Any resumption of talks with Iran requires making more confidence-building measures by the West,” Jalali stressed.

He made the remarks reacting to a recent letter sent to the Iranian authorities by European Union's Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton who had asked for resumption of the so-called nuclear talks with Iran.

“The Iranians have currently no trust in the West as it failed to meet its commitments regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program including providing nuclear fuel for the country’s reactors,” Jalali said.

He added that the Western officials have not even been honest about what had been discussed between the two sides during their first and second rounds of talks.

However, Jalali stressed that the best way to negotiate “is to discuss major regional and international issues in a targeted talks which would be based on the capacities of both sides.”
