OIC Apologizes for Unreal Iran Remarks

Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu apologized for the "unreal remarks" on Monday in a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, the ministry said in a statement.

Ihsanoglu explained that the statements had been published on OIC's website when he was in Saudi city of Jeddah, and that he was not aware of the move.

He expressed regret over the mistake and apologized to the Iranian government and nation.

The OIC chief said he had immediately ordered the removal of the material from the website.

The statements against the Islamic Republic were instantly removed from the organization's website, Iran's Foreign Ministry confirmed.

Ihsanoglu arrived in Washington on Sunday to attend the eighth US-Islamic World Forum.

He will deliver the opening lecture of the forum on April 12, addressing issues such as the US relations with the Muslim world and the OIC.
