Pakistani Lawmaker Condemns French Burqa Ban

Terming it a gross violation of human rights and malicious intervention in the religious life of five million Muslims living in France, Prof. Khurshid said it amounted to an attack on Islamic values.

He apprehended that such aggressive secular fundamentalism would increase reaction, extremism, and violence in society.

This is a blow to interreligious and intercultural harmony and would have far reaching consequences not just in France but the whole world,” said Prof. Khurshid in a statement.

Saying that Muslims all over the world condemn this and would never surrender their religious and human rights to such blatant government intervention and attack, he asked governments of Muslim countries to take up the issue with all seriousness and try to nub the evil in the bud.

He also appealed to the OIC to take up this issue immediately and formulate a strategy to counter anti-Muslim measures and safeguard the interests of Muslims living in non-Muslim and Western societies.
