On Tuesday, the European Union imposed a new round of sanctions, including asset freezes and travel bans, against 32 unnamed Iranian officials over what they have claimed as human rights abuses.

The measure was adopted at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg. The names of these 32 individual have not been revealed.

Chairman of the Iran's Majlis (parliamentary) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Wednesday that imposing sanctions on Iranian officials is a “noisy scenario” by the West as part of the effort to avert liability for keeping silent regarding “actual human rights abuses.”

Referring to the killing of anti-government protesters in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain in recent months, he said that such killings have been carried out as Western countries have failed to display even the least concern or reactions over such flagrant violations of human rights.

Boroujerdi added that Western countries imposed sanctions on Iranian officials under the pretext of human rights abuses in an attempt to promote another anti-Iran publicity to hide their own failure to condemn actual cases of rights abuses in the region.

Iran insists that multiple sanctions measures previously adopted by the US and Europe against the Islamic Republic have been proven futile, as the country's economy and nuclear program remain on track and making steady progress.

Moreover, a number of Iranian officials that were previously targeted with sanctions and 'freeze of assets' mocked the effort, saying that they have never held accounts in Western financial institutions.
