Serbian Opposition Calls for Early Elections

Speakers at the rally criticized President Tadic's ruling coalition for the recession, blasting the administration as incompetent and corrupt. They said if elections are not called, they would embark on a sit-in.

In what seems like a desperate move, president of Serbian progressive party Tomislav Nikolic said he would neither eat nor drink until President Tadic calls for early elections.

Professor Zoran Stoiljkovic says the disputing factions should seat for talks and it doesn't make any difference if the proposed elections are held in December or January.

Parliamentary elections in Serbia are due in 2012, but with the recession taking its toll, the pressure is growing on the authorities.
