Iran Self-Sufficing in Training Pilots

“At present, 100 percent of training of the pilots needed for the Air Force is provided in Iran,” Commander of Shahid Sattari Aviation University Brigadier General Mahmoud Sheikh Hasani told reporters on Sunday.

All the training stages are provided “without any need to foreign equipment,” IRNA quoted him as saying.

Before Iran's Islamic Revolution in 1979, all the efforts made by the former regime to upgrade the Air Force were in line with the objectives of the world superpowers, especially the US, Sheikh Hasani noted.

He argued that before the revolution, the United States tried to “expand its influence” in the Middle East through Iran, so it equipped the country's Air Force using its oil money.

After Tehran and Washington broke off relations following the revolution, Iran's enemies were expecting the collapse of the Air Force, Sheikh Hasani pointed out.

However, the Air Force's experiences during the 8-year Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988) and its other achievements during the post-revolutionary era have refuted all such expectations, he added.

Iran has embarked on a campaign for self-sufficiency in the country's defense industry, launching numerous military hardware projects, including aerial and sea-borne military vehicles such as submarines, combat frigates, and various types of missiles.
