Iran, China Urge More Parliamentary Ties

The call was made when visiting Chinese legislator Chen Zhili met with Deputy Speaker of Iran's parliament (Majlis) Seyyed Shahabedin Sadr on Monday.

The vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) -- China's top legislature -- hailed close relations between Iran's Majlis and China's NPC.

She noted that Sino-Iranian ties have been developing steadily and healthily, and highlighted the major role the two legislative bodies have played in boosting cooperation between Tehran and Beijing.

The Chinese official expressed her country's willingness to enhance parliamentary cooperation with the Iranian side, and called for more mutual interactions to benefit both nations.

Sadr, for his part, praised Iran-China collaboration in political, trade and cultural fields in recent years, saying that the Islamic Republic is ready to improve pragmatic cooperation between the two countries in various areas.

Chen also met with Chairman of Iran-China Friendship Association Hossein Sobhaninia. The Chinese lawmaker arrived in Tehran on Sunday for a visit upon the invitation of the Majlis.
