Larijani Urges All-Out Efforts to Stop Crackdown on Bahraini People

The Iranian speaker made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Leader of Iraq's National Congress Party, Ahmad Al Chalabi, here in Tehran on Monday.

At the meeting, Larijani voiced concern over the cumbersome conditions of the people in Libya, Yemen and Bahrain, and warned that continuation of the present conditions would endanger peace and security throughout the region.

He viewed withdrawal of the alien troops as the only way to put an end to the perilous situation in Libya and Bahrain, and stressed, "The world powers hold no correct understanding of the current conditions in Bahrain and any further continuation of the current situation would be detrimental to them themselves."

Larijani appreciated the moves made by the different Muslim and Shiite Iraqi groups in support of the revolting Muslim nations in the region, and reiterated, "All capacities should be utilized and all opportunities should be taken in a bid to prevent any further continuation of the present trend in Bahrain."

Ahmad Chalabi, for his part, noted the Iraqi people's support for the oppressed Bahraini nation, and said, "The Iraqi nation cannot keep mum about the massacre of the Bahraini people and the pressures exerted on them."

"Some regional states which are worried about popular uprisings in their own countries inflame the crisis in Bahrain and meddle in it in order to project (the blame for) their internal problems (on others)," Chalabi continued.

"The present war in Bahrain is aimed at confronting the growing movement of the people in the region," he said, and concluded, "They are worried about the victory of the people in Iraq and other regional countries."
