Pak MPs Chant Slogans against US Drone Strikes

It is the first time that the members of parliament showed angry reaction to the US strikes in the National Assembly, lower house of the parliament, when the opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan agitated the issue.

Khan, leader of the Muslim League (N) party condemned the strikes and demanded of the Prime Minister to convey the message to the US administration to stop the drone strikes.

He said there had been a lot of gossip on the recent visit of the head of intelligence agency to the US and demanded that the lower house be taken into confidence in this regard.

He assured of his support to the government on any message sent through Parliament against the drone strikes.

He also asked the Prime Minister to take the house into confidence on the latter’s recent visit to Afghanistan and the negotiations held there.

He welcomed President Asif Ali Zardari's condemning of the drone attacks in the country's tribal areas and said that the prime minister, too, should make a statement from the August House in this regard.

He said that the opposition would support the Government if it takes a stiff stance to condemn the drone attacks.

“It's a defining moment and we must stand united for national sovereignty,” he said.

He also said that instead of looking towards the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other institutions for help, Pakistan should rely on its own resources.
