MP Calls for Serious Reaction to Britain's Insulting Attitude

"Passiveness is not tolerable. Britain has shown an arrogant attitude towards us in frequent cases, including the sedition in 2009 and in many other cases even prior to that date. Thus, we are required to give them a serious response," Mehdi Kochakzadeh told FNA.

The legislator reiterated the need for the Iranian government to take serious and immediate action to respond to the British government's insults, saying, "We are required to show an active reaction to the British Foreign Secretary."

The remarks by the Iranian lawmaker came after the British embassy in an insulting move refrained from granting entry visas to the Iranian publishers - a majority of whom from the private sector - who were preparing to take part in the international event in London.

The British mission cited baseless and ridiculous reasons for not issuing visas for the Iranian publishers, claiming that Iranian publishers might not be willing to return home or might not be able to afford buying a return ticket to Iran.

The London Book Fair was held from April 11-13. It is an annual large-scale book-publishing trade fair. It has grown in size and importance in recent years, and 23,000 publishers, booksellers, literary agents, librarians, media and industry suppliers from over 100 countries now attend the fair.
