Iran, China Set to Expand Ties

Salehi made the remarks at a meeting with Chen Zhili, the vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, in Tehran on Tuesday.

The Iranian foreign minister noted that all the barriers in the way of efforts to enhance the two countries' relations must be removed.

The senior Chinese legislator said that Tehran and Beijing have similar stances on regional and international issues and added that no obstacle can prevent the expansion of relations between the countries.

Chen pointed out that bilateral cooperation will effectively help efforts to establish peace and stability in Asia and the rest of the world.

China and Iran will hold a series of celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in Tehran and Beijing in the near future, and officials say they will seize the opportunity to expand their interactions.

Salehi and Chen also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and North Africa.

Earlier on Monday, Chen held separate meetings with the deputy speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis), Seyyed Shahabedin Sadr, and Iran-China Parliamentary Friendship Group Director Hossein Sobhaninia.

In the meetings, she highlighted the importance of exchanges of visits between Iranian and Chinese officials, saying it can help promote cultural, political, and economic cooperation.

The Chinese lawmaker arrived in Tehran on Sunday for a visit upon the invitation of the Majlis.
