McCain's Libya Visit Seeks Grip on Oil Wealth: MP

Chairman of Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission in an interview with ISNA referred to the Republican US Sen. John McCain's recent trip to Libya and his talks with Libyan Transitional National Council officials and said, "Americans have observed developments in Libya since the eruption of crisis in the country. Despite their unveiled positions on human rights, they refused to focus on human rights, brutal killing of people and employment of unconventional weapons due to existence of energy sources in Libya."

He added, "Only a no-fly-zone plan was approved by the UN Security Council after one month of clashes in the North African country and popular positions were bombarded repeatedly in practice. The West and the US have not done anything serious to support Libyans."

"Americans are trying to enter into talks with Libyan Transitional National Council officials to win concession and secure their interests," Boroujerdi noted.

U.S. Sen. John McCain called for increased military support for Libya's protestors Friday, including weapons and training to oust Libyan Leader Moammar Gadhafi.
