Lyon Mosque Raps US over Allegations

Lyon mosque administrator Kamal Qabtan deplored the move in a statement, saying the recent “ridiculous” allegations against the Lyon mosque are not justifiable in any way, IRIB reported Wednesday.

The reaction came after leaked classified US intelligence documents revealed that nine mosques and Islamic institutions worldwide are considered by the Pentagon to be places where "known al-Qaeda members were recruited, facilitated or trained."

Qabtan said that he has set plans to meet with the US ambassador to France to express his disapproval of the US military ruling.

Making such allegations against officials and Muslims who pray in that mosque is totally unacceptable and baseless, he added.

The French government opened a debate on the role of Islam in the French society after Interior Minister Claude Gueant described the number of Muslims in France as “a problem.”

Statistics indicate that, out of a population of 65 million in France, at least 5 million are Muslims. France has the largest Muslim population in Europe.

This is while Muslims have no representatives to the French parliament.
