“More than 2,300 Iranian and 1600 international publishers from 67 countries will participate in the annual event,” Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini said in a press conference on Tuesday.

“Iranian publishers will present 208,000 titles during the event, promoting the motto 'elevation of religious wisdom and cultural vision in the year of economic Jihad,'” he added.

Hosseini announced that 500 guests would visit the fair from different countries and visitors can meet authors and scholars on the sidelines of the event which will run from May 4 to 14, 2011.

He also pointed out that more families and children are expected to visit the fair this year and that a special budget has been allocated to students to help them buy books more easily.

“The motivation for reading books has increased and families and children are encouraged to visit the fair,” Hosseini opined.

“We will use the experience from previous editions to organize a better book fair,” he went on to say. “We have tried to present higher-quality books this year.”

“The fair will exhibit the books selected for Iranian literary awards which can be a good spiritual support for authors and publishers,” Hosseini added.

“Publishers are also expected to invite writers and translators so that visitors get the chance to meet their favorites,” he concluded.

The 2010 edition of the annual event presented around 2,000 publishers, including 980 international publishers with some 170,000 titles on display.
