TEHRAN, May 3 (ICANA) – The 24th Tehran International Book Fair has officially opened in the Iranian capital with the presence of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

In the inauguration ceremony of the book fair at the Iranian capital's Grand Prayer Grounds, the Iranian president thanked the organizers of the event.

Earlier, Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini announced that nearly 4,000 Iranian and international publishers would participate in the book fair.

“More than 2,300 Iranian and 1,600 international publishers from 67 countries will participate in the annual event,” Hosseini said.

The Iranian minister also announced that 500 guests would visit the fair from different countries and visitors can meet authors and scholars on the sidelines of the event.

The 24th Tehran International Book fair will be open to public from May 4 to 14.

The 2010 edition of the annual event hosted around 2,000 publishers, including 980 international publishers with some 170,000 titles on display.
